Last Sunday February 16, 2025, we celebrated the Formal Turnover of the Prof. Dr. Manfred Fischer Art Collection to the Pintô Art Museum and Arboretum, marking another achievement and in German-Filipino cultural relations. It was another landmark event between the two countries, this time a cooperation between the Pinto Art Museum and the Embassy of the Republic of Germany.
The Fischer Collection, a distinguished collection of prints and selected paintings, collected during the last 40 years, now finds its home at Pintô Museum. It includes works circulated through Griffelkunst in Germany and Europe, augments the museum’s growing international selection, serving as an artistic treasure and an educational resource.
On the event, Mr. Klaus W. Hartung of Magkaisa Consultancy & Asian Fine Arts highlighted the significance of this donation, placing it within the broader efforts to strengthen cultural ties—following past projects like the official handover of Dr. José Rizal’s personal belongings and furniture he used during his stay in Wilhelmsfeld, Germany in 2021 and 2024 and the Dr. Jose Rizal Wine project last year. The exhibition and ceremony also recognized German-American artist Linda Cunningham, whose works are part of the collection.
This turnover represents much more than just simply the donation of a set of art; it marks an exchange in culture, a journey through history, and a joint investment into the arts. We extend our deepest gratitude to Prof. Dr. med. Manfred Fischer for his generosity, Dr. Joven R. Cuanang for his foresight in accommodating this collection, and the rest of the people who, in one way or the other, participated in this great event.
In the presence of the doner and the done, the German Ambassador, the Director General of the National Museum of the Philippines, several Diplomats from other countries and representatives of different other German and Filipino institutions, Prof. Dr. Manfred Fischer and Dr. Cuanan will be further in support to introduce the idea of Art-Cooperation like the Griffelkunst or Kunstverein in Germany, to enable a bigger amount of art interested people to own art and the artist have another way to distribute their art in the public.The exhibition at the Pinto Museum will be running in the Gallery 7 until March 16th, 2025.
