Private Collection - Horses in Art

Artworks by one individual artist painting a similar subject – let us have a closer look at Mabini Art. Paco Gorospe (1939 – 2002) was called “A Filipino legend in cubism and modern art from the Mabini School of Art; he was an internationally-acclaimed artist.”

The horse as a measure of power and a symbol of royalty and aristocracy has a limited audience in the Philippines. But Gorospe domesticated what could be a Mustang and even crossbred it in his imagination.

Another horse casts its inverse shadow (opposite direction and dark mane against the front horse's coiffed and trimmed mane), its muzzle undergoing some transfiguration. Two other horses with upright transparent shapes on the body and diminishing blue color, are preparing to trot.

(Quote of the text of Prof. Paul Blanco Zafaralla, PH.D. from the Book Revisiting ‘Mabini Art’, published in 2013, Klaus W. Hartung Consulting)
