Private Collection - Birds

Artworks by one artist painting similar subject – let us have a closer look at artworks featuring birds in different amount, color and style by Francisco Paco Gorospe. Paco Gorospe (1939 – 2002) was called “A Filipino legend in cubism and modern art from the Mabini School of Art; he was an internationally-acclaimed artist.”

He was also referred to as the “Picasso of the Philippines” due to the European and American influences in his work.

Freedom. Peace.

These are two universal constructs which Gorospe essayed with his art pieces on birds. Happy are the birds, either in dominant blue, golden yellow; with specks of red to echo their red breasts, in varied colors; or with white and brown plumage. Whichever, the birds are in multiple directions to underscore this universal message: freedom and peace are multi-directional, without color and other forms of boundaries. This message overpowers the varied technical renditions, to wit: clearcut-blurred contours; sharp outlines and vigorous colors; and blurred contours seeming to submerge into the background, or emerge from it.
