Collector´s Choice

Sunday is Collector´s Choice Day. We do present one special piece of Mabini Art, chosen by private collectors of Art of the Philippines.

Master Rafael Popoy Cusi

Abstract Palmtrees, Acrylic on Canvas, 60 cm x 40 cm, 2021, Signed

For over 80 years now, Mabini Street, the two-kilometer street located in Ermita has been the nexus of touristy and artistic activities. In its heyday, it teemed with art galleries and shops, making it Manila’s most colorful alley.

The categorization of the Philippine Visual Art in the categories used in the Western Word might be improper; nevertheless, the enclosed Glossary might be helpful in sorting paintings of the different filipino visual artists.

Abstract Art: painting or sculpture which does not represent the appearance of objects in nature but concentrates on harmonious or effective combinations of form and color ín themselves

The Glossary is adapted from the book ‘Philippine Modern Art and its Critics´ by Alice M.L. Coseteng published in 1972

Rafael Popoy Cusi outstanding skills and talent in painting, especially in watercolour, earned him the distinction of  “Master of Watercolour” in the Philippines.
