Collector´s Choice

Sunday is Collector's Choice Day. This artwork is a Masterpiece at the exhibition at the German Club Manila opened these days. We always present one special piece of Mabini Art, chosen by one private collector of Art of the Philippines.

Master Francisco Paco Gorospe  Two Boats, Oil on canvas, 60 cm x 90 cm,Undated, Signed Lower RightFor over 80 years now, Mabini Street, the two-kilometer street located in Ermita has been the nexus of touristy and artistic activities. In its heyday, it teemed with art galleries and shops, making it Manila’s most colorful alley.

More about the artist - Francisco Paco Gorospe was a Filipino legend in cubism and modern art from the Mabini School of Art, Paco was an internationally-acclaimed artist.

He was also referred to as the “Picasso of the Philippines” due to the European and American influences in his work.

Back then the conventional style of painting landscapes and human interest subjects was the norm and the taste of the people leaned towards the traditional.  We experimented with exaggerated, distorted figures and disregarded proportions.

The collector has been in the heart of the German-Filipino cultural and art scene for a quarter of century, following the footsteps of the National Hero of the Philippines Dr. José Rizal and promoting Philippine art in Europe and in the Philippines.
