Art and Dr. José Rizal - Episode 1


Rizal in Wilhelmsfeld, Germany from April 26 to June 26 of the Year 1886

Magkaisa Creative Space draws on its rich German-Filipino heritage of resilience, strength and dependability and is honored to provide insides of the relation between Germany and the Philippines during the time of the National Hero of the Philippines, Dr. José Rizal.


Rizal´s timeline was published by the Embassy of the Philippines in Germany, Berlin in the Year 2017 and enables an insight of the travel of Rizal in Germany during his stay. Rizal´s achievement in Heidelberg and Wilhelmsfeld were the writing of the first novel “Noli me tangere” as well as several poems.


In Wilhelmsfeld Rizal stayed in the vicarage of Pastor Ullmer. In the village a statue of Rizal was erected and a street was named after Dr. José Rizal. Until today Filipinos all over the world are visiting this small village in the mountain close to Heidelberg.

The artwork of Rizal is taken from the statue of Rizal in Wilhelmsfeld, which was created by Anastacia Caedo (1907-1990), a master of classic sculpture , statuary and monuments.
