Crispin V. Lopez

 

Born Bulacan 1903, passed away 1985 (Portraits)

Father Emiliano was a painter who executed a painting of Dr. José Rizal for the Gregoria del Pilar Elementary Schoon in Bulacan.
Greatest influence, Eugenio Lopez, his grandfather, a portraitist of the principal families of Bulacan.
Independent of the Fernando Amorsolo school, his paintings can be distinguished because of their emphasis on tonal contrasts that approaches that of photography.
Lopez portrait of Pres. Manuel Quezon, done in 1949, is remarkable for photographic vividness and a candid quality.
Won 1st prize, Rizal Portrait contest sponsored by Malacanang, 1937. Received hon mention, AAP-Manila Club exhibit, 1949; and 2nd prize, conservative category, AAP 6th Annual of 1953.

In 1917, came to Manila, where he found a job retouching photographs in the portrait studio of Jose Nepomuceno.
While thus employed, finished his secondary education at the FEU High.
Started to devote himself entirely to painting in 1927. (HAAP-SP).
